Description of BS 5261-1:2000 2001This part of BS 5261 gives guidance on the preparation of primarily textual documents, both for those producing the version that will be disseminated and for those producing text that will be printed by professionals. Two approaches to document design will be referred to as direct production and indirect production. Application of the standard will assist in the setting up of an appropriate house style, minimize the amount of additional work before production and result in documents which communicate effectively.
Covers document layout, arrangement of headings and footnotes, choice of typography, ways of dealing with tables and illustrations. Emphasis is on enhancing the usability of documents produced by word processors/PCs and clear communication with intermediaries.
