ASTM D454-99
Historical Standard: ASTM D454-99 Standard Test Method for Rubber Deterioration by Heat and Air Pressure
SUPERSEDED (see Active link, below)
ASTM D454
1. Scope
1.1 This test method describes a procedure to determine the influence of elevated temperature and air pressure on the physical properties of vulcanized rubber. The results of this test may not give an exact correlation with service performance since performance conditions vary widely. The test may, however, be used to evaluate rubber compounds on a laboratory comparison basis. It will be most applicable to performance under conditions of increased temperature and air pressure.
Note 1-For evaluating rubber vulcanizates under less severe conditions that more nearly approach natural aging, the use of Test Methods D573 and D865 is recommended.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
