Content DescriptionPrepared by the Minimum Design Loads on Buildings and Other Structures Standards Committee of Management Group F, Codes and Standards, of ASCE Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures, ANSI/ASCE 7-93, provides requirements for dead, live, soil, wind, snow, rain, and earthquake loads, as well as their combinations. This standard, which replaces ASCE 7-88, features revised earthquake load criteria and associated load combinations for the design and construction of buildings and other structures subject to earthquake ground motions. The proposed revisions are based on the 1991 NEHRP Recommended Provisions for the Development of Seismic Regulations for New Buildings, and they have been approved by the ASCE 7 standards committee with certain changes. In particular, ASCE 7-93 permits the use of allowable stress design with new earthquake loads. Standard ASCE 7-93 is suitable for inclusion in building codes and other design documents.
