Description of ASTM-B161 2009ASTM B161 - 05(2009)Standard Specification for Nickel Seamless Pipe and TubeActive Standard ASTM B161 | Developed by Subcommittee: B02.07 Book of Standards Volume: 02.04 ASTM B161Abstract This specification covers the standard requirements for nickel (UNS N02200) and low-carbon nickel (UNS N02201) in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube. The material shall conform to the specified chemical composition limits for nickel, copper, iron, manganese, carbon, silicon, and sulfur which shall be determined by chemical analysis. Tension test shall be performed; wherein, the tensile properties for the material specified as small-diameter and light-wall tube shall be in conformity with the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation requirements. Each pipe or tube shall also be subjected to nondestructive electric test or hydrostatic test in accordance with a referenced ASTM document to determine the allowable fiber stress for the annealed and stress-relieved materials. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers nickel (UNS N02200)* and low-carbon nickel (UNS N02201)* in the form of cold-worked seamless pipe and tube in the conditions shown in Table 1 and Table X1.1. 1.1.1 Hot-worked material is available. Properties are to be agreed upon between the manufacturer and purchaser. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to become familiar with all hazards including those identified in the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for this product/material as provided by the manufacturer, to establish appropriate safety and health practices, and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations.
