Description of ASTM-F1537 2011ASTM F1537 - 11Standard Specification for Wrought Cobalt-28Chromium-6Molybdenum Alloys for Surgical Implants (UNS R31537, UNS R31538, and UNS R31539)Active Standard ASTM F1537 | Developed by Subcommittee: F04.12 Book of Standards Volume: 13.01 ASTM F1537Abstract This specification covers the chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements for three wrought cobalt-28chromium-6molybdenum alloys used for surgical implants. The properties specified apply specifically to wrought bar, rod, and wire. The alloys shall conform to the prescribed chemical requirements. Two tension and two bend tests shall be performed on each sample lot to determine tensile properties. Bar, rod, and wire conforming to this specification shall have a homogeneous microstructure with an average grain size of ASTM No. 5 or finer when measured. This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date. 1. Scope 1.1 This specification covers the chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements for three wrought cobalt-28chromium-6molybdenum alloys used for surgical implants. The properties specified apply specifically to wrought bar, rod, and wire. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
