Sponsored by the Structural Division of ASCE Structural Fire Protection provides information on current techniques and developments to improve fire safety in buildings. This Manual of Practice establishes a basis for developing new standards to calculate the fire resistance of structural members. Topics include: building design and fire safety, including building codes; principles of structural fire protection, including the development of fire in enclosures and the effect of fire on the behavior of concrete, steel and wood at elevated temperatures; fire resistance of building elements, including calculation methods; fire temperatures and effects over time; and mathematical models for calculating temperature and fire resistance. MOP 78 will be useful to architects, engineers, building officials, and students working in the area of structural fire safety.
